•  Her current research focuses on the generalisability of existing findings in the literature, such as examining whether findings hold true across different sexual orientations and socioeconomic statuses.

Current Research Projects:

• Thriving Together: Art Exhibition
  • A research program led by McMaster University’s Offord Centre for Child Studies that explores the mental health of newcomer children and families in Hamilton is engaging participants beyond data collection through an unexpected method: art.  Through a series of art workshops, study participants reflected on their new lives in Hamilton and their hopes and dreams for the future.

  • As Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences and core faculty of the Global Health Program, Amanda Sim’s research focuses on improving the mental health and well-being of forcibly displaced children and families. Sim recently received a $1.2 million grant from The LEGO Foundation to develop innovative strategies to prevent child maltreatment and promote positive parenting among families displaced by armed conflict at the Thai-Myanmar border.
