Join us for our first MIHE/ARMS Seminar Series talk of the year with Dr. Amanda Sim!
Dr. Sim’s talk will discuss the methods and findings from community-engaged research with refugee families in Hamilton, Ontario. It aims to uncover their mental health needs, barriers to accessing care, and understand their preferences for mental health and well-being support.
Dr. Amanda Sim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences and the Global Health graduate program. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Kathy Georgiades at the Offord Centre for Child Studies and holds a doctorate from the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at Oxford University, where she conducted research on the intergenerational transmission of war among Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Amanda has over 15 years of experience conducting research with children and families affected by war and forced displacement and has worked extensively throughout Asia and Africa. Her research is rooted in equitable community partnership and engagement aimed at promoting the mental health and well-being of families living in adversity.
